Recently, my friend had a little baby girl. Lucia. She’s a weenie little thing, bless ‘er, and only weighed 5lbs 15 oz when she was born. She has the biggest, bluest eyes I’ve ever seen and the most squeezable, kissable cheeks ever.
But then the mild panic moment set in, “OMG! I’m going over there this weekend, and I need baby gift ideas- and fast. Someone please help me, as I have about as much knowledge about new baby gifts as I do about brain surgery and Kawasaki W800 motorbikes.”
I questioned just what, exactly, babies like… rattles? Stuffed animals? Noisy toys, perhaps? But then came to the conclusion that new born baby gifts like those most likely have a one way ticket to the charity shop within moments of being unwrapped.
After much research and high street traipsing, I settled on a few unusual baby gifts I managed to track down online, from the comfort of my sofa with a nice cuppa in hand. They were delivered to me within three days of purchasing, in plenty of time for my visit to the lovely mummy and her adorable little papoose.
And you know what? The little bambino, Lucia, actually smiled at me in a baby kind of way (or was it a scowl?!) when I handed over my – I like to think – phenomenally unique baby gifts. So, just what did I buy to bring about such a blissful reaction?
It was none other than…
… personalised baby gifts. Yup, three small words, but big impact. One of the super-duper pressies I opted for was a ‘New Baby Girl’ spoof newspaper. It’s basically a newspaper article all about the baby in question, which, in my case, was little Lucia. I personalised it with the mum, dad and baby’s names, so the article featured all of them in it.
I’m not kidding when I say it went down a storm. Both parents were chuckling away to themselves as they read through it, and I’m sure Lucia, if she could read, would have uttered a few happy baby gurgles. When she’s older, she’ll appreciate the present!
The other special baby gifts I plumped for included a fluffy-wuffy pink baby blanket, made from fleece, with ‘Lucia’ and her birth date carefully embroidered on to it in pink thread. The other gift I went for – I couldn’t resist – was a bottle of champers (for the parents, of course!) featuring a stylish label with their little princess’s name on the front, my own short message of congrats plus Lucia’s birth date. Nice, hmmm?
What you get with personalised new baby presents is practicality, personality and individuality, since you can tailor the item or items completely to your recipient, which was, in this case, my friend’s little bundle of joy.
Like I said, I’m no pro when it comes to baby girl gifts. Heck, I don’t even know what to buy my partner most of the time, but there’s definitely something to be said for personalised gifts. I can safely say that my purchase was one of the best yet…
