Every new parent loves to show off their new bundle of joy and hear all the “oh he is adorable”, what a beautiful baby”, and the other “oohs and awws” but there are things you need to do as a parent to keep your baby safe while you are on outings.
Put sunscreen on small children whenever you are about to go outside. Test a small amount of sunscreen on the inside of your baby’s wrist to make sure they do not have an allergic reaction to it. Babies that are under six months old should be kept out of direct sunlight because their skin is extremely sensitive. Carry an umbrella with you or use a stroller or car seat that has a canopy.
Protect your child from insect bites by using a repellent but follow the age restrictions and ask your doctor which one they recommend.
When traveling in the car, make sure that your car seat meets safety restrictions and that your child meets the proper requirements such as age, size and weight for that particular seat. Children under one year of age and 20 pounds should always sit in a rear-facing car seat. If you are traveling by air, ensure that the car seat is certified for aircraft travel.
If you are staying in an overnight hotel or other accommodations bring your own pack-n-play for safety rather than relying on a crib from someone you do not know.
Always have a small first aid kit in your diaper bag or car so you are prepared for anything large or small that may happen with your child while you are out and about.
