MEASUREMENTS

To fit ages 9-12 (12-18:18-24) months. Finished measurements: chest 60(65:69.5) cm; length to shoulder 28(32:36) cm; sleeve length 19(22:24) cm.

MATERIALS

  • 3(4:4) 50g balls of Debbie Bliss baby cashmerino in Baby Blue 204(A) and one 50g ball in White 100(B)
  • Pair each of 3mm and 3.25mm knitting needles
  • 3mm circular needle, 60cm long
  • 3 small buttons

TENSION

25 sts and 34 rows to 10cm square over st st using 3.25mm needles.

NOTES

  • We have given you the whole alphabet, so you can customise your sweater to suit. Bear in mind the number of stitches you have to work with when deciding which letters to use. You will need to draw a chart of the name on to graph paper to workout the spacing of the letters.
  • When working from your chart, use separate small balls of yarn for each letter and twist yarns at the colour change to avoid holes.
  • If you prefer, you can Swiss darn the name on to the plain front, rather than knitting it in.

FRONT
When you have drawn up your name chart on graph paper and worked out the number of rows in your chart, use the knitted Back to work out how many st-st rows you need to work after the lower rib before starting the chart. There will be a maximum of 22 rows for the chart, but leave at least 2 further rows between the top of the chart and the neck shaping.
Work exactly as for Back from ** to**. Beg with a k row, work in st-st for approximately 16(17:18)cm or until your each the point where you need to start the chart, ending with a WS row.
Next row (RS) With A, k to start of chart, k across 1st row of chart, k to end in A.Cont in st-st until all chart rows have been worked, then work until front measures 23(27:31)cm from cast on edge, ending with a p row.

NECKBAND
Join shoulder seams. With RS facing, 3mm circular needle and A, rib 5 sts of back button band, k across rem 13(14:15) sts on holder, pick up and k21 sts down left front neck, k across 13(15:17) sts on centre front holder, pick up and k21 sts up right front neck, k first 13(14:15) sts on right back neck edge, then work p1, [k1, p1] twice across buttonhole band. 91(95:99) sts. Work backwards and forwards in rows. 1st rib row (WS) K1, [p1, k1] to end. 2nd(buttonhole) rib row P1, [k1, p1] to last 4sts, ssk, yf, k1, p1. 3rd row [K1, p1] to end. Rib a further 2 rows. TO MAKE UP
With centre of cast off edge of sleeve to shoulder, sew on sleeves. Join side and sleeve seams. Sew cast on edge of button band behind button hole band. Sew on buttons.
