A kid’s first birthday party is an extraordinary event, but not simply for the one-year-old. In fact, since parents want others to come and share their joy, they mail first birthday party invitations to their friends and relatives. The first time I got mailed a 1st birthday invitation, I honestly had the idea it was a sort of silly action. I mean 1st birthday invitations seemed so pointless, since the child just scarcely knew her first words. Maybe she would sense that something special was happening to her, and she naturally would love getting so much attention, but interest in her would be nothing new being a baby. So how come one goes through this effort of having cute 1st birthday invitations anyhow?
Well, parents understand that life is so delicate, and none more so than that of a new baby. The first birthday party is pretty much a milestone in any one’s life. The parents are not only celebrating their kid’s first birthday, but also the fact that the child was healthy enough to get this far into life.
Certainly one of the hardest issues when receiving a 1st birthday invitation is choosing what to get for a gift. If you are new to this sort of stuff, it can be for sure a thorny problem. Should you buy clothes for the child, even though you know he or she will outgrow them in a few months? Or do you get a toy, or a game or puzzle? A mobile maybe? A solid gold pacifier? The parents could have at least given some hint on the 1st birthday invitation, for what kind present to get. But nope, there wasn’t any clue at all what the parents would value for a present for the child. And one can’t ask the baby (well one can but don’t expect an understandable answer).
So I settled on getting the child an electronic toy. The kind that plays music whenever you struck it. I figured any kid would like that. If the parents did not feel it was a good 1st birthday party present, they didn’t tell me. They appeared to like it. The decorations at the party looked nice, as did the cake. As it turned out, I don’t know why receiving that first birthday invitation bothered me, but I guess I got all upset over nothing. It was a nice time pleasant time for all.
