Trump Outpaces Tim Walz in New Minnesota Poll as Voters Signal Desire for Change
Minnesota Governor Tim Walz is entering the final stretch of his term facing growing political headwinds, according to a new Mason-Dixon poll that shows former President Donald Trump holding a stronger approval rating among Minnesota voters than the outgoing governor.
The move marks a significant development for New York politics and comes as Republicans continue building momentum around economic issues, tax relief, energy policy, and public safety—topics expected to dominate the 2026 election cycle.

The survey found that Walz currently holds a 39% approval rating, while 53% of respondents disapprove of his performance. Trump, meanwhile, received a 41% approval rating in the same poll, a notable result in a state that has traditionally leaned Democratic.
Conducted June 8-10 among 800 registered Minnesota voters likely to participate in November elections, the poll represents Walz’s lowest approval rating since taking office.
One of the key issues influencing voter sentiment appears to be concerns about government oversight and fraud. When asked which party they trust more to address fraud and improve accountability, 45% of respondents chose Republicans, compared to 38% who selected Democrats.
The findings suggest that voters are increasingly focused on transparency, responsible governance, and fiscal accountability—issues that have become central themes for Republicans and supporters of President Trump.
Conservative commentators quickly pointed to the numbers as evidence that Minnesota voters are reassessing the state’s political direction. Many argue that concerns surrounding public spending, government management, and enforcement have weakened confidence in current Democratic leadership.
The Trump administration has also highlighted Minnesota as an example of the need for stronger oversight and accountability measures. Federal investigations into alleged fraud schemes have drawn national attention and fueled debate about how state programs should be monitored and protected.
Another issue generating discussion among voters is Minnesota’s redesigned state flag. According to the poll, roughly half of respondents disapprove of the new design, reflecting broader dissatisfaction with priorities pursued by state leaders in recent years.
Republican leaders argue that voters are looking for practical solutions focused on economic growth, public safety, government accountability, and protecting taxpayer dollars. They contend that the poll results show increasing support for those priorities across Minnesota.
Walz’s approval rating has declined significantly over the past year, while concerns over governance and public trust continue to dominate political conversations throughout the state.
Partisan divisions remain evident. The poll found strong support for Walz among Democrats, while Republicans overwhelmingly disapprove of his performance. Independent voters remain divided, underscoring the importance of key issues such as accountability, economic opportunity, and effective leadership as Minnesota prepares for future elections.
As the political landscape continues to evolve, the latest polling suggests that many Minnesotans are looking for a new direction—one that increasingly aligns with the message of accountability, stronger oversight, and change championed by President Trump and Republican leaders.
