Trump Says Iran Violated Ceasefire After Reported Drone Attack in Strait of Hormuz
President Donald Trump said Friday that Iran violated the recently announced ceasefire agreement following a reported drone attack targeting commercial shipping in the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world’s most strategically important maritime routes.
In a post on Truth Social, Trump stated that Iranian forces launched multiple one-way attack drones at vessels transiting the waterway.

According to the president, one drone struck the upper deck of a commercial cargo ship, causing damage but allowing the vessel to continue its voyage. Trump also said U.S. forces intercepted three additional drones before they reached their targets.
“Obviously, this is a foolish violation of our Ceasefire Agreement,” Trump wrote.
Reports Point to First Major Ceasefire Incident
The president’s remarks followed reports that a Singapore-flagged cargo ship was targeted near the Strait of Hormuz. According to multiple media reports citing U.S. officials, the incident is being investigated as a possible violation of the ceasefire framework reached between the United States and Iran.
If confirmed, the attack would represent one of the first major tests of the agreement, which was intended to reduce military tensions and protect international shipping in the region.
Strait of Hormuz Remains Critical to Global Energy Markets
The Strait of Hormuz is a vital shipping corridor through which a significant share of the world’s oil and liquefied natural gas exports pass each day.
Any disruption in the waterway can affect global energy prices, supply chains, and financial markets, making security in the region a top priority for governments and international shipping companies.
Military officials continue monitoring activity in the area as commercial vessels transit the strategic passage.
Ceasefire Faces Early Challenges
The reported incident comes as U.S. and Iranian officials continue diplomatic efforts aimed at reducing regional tensions while maintaining maritime security.
Neither U.S. defense officials nor Iranian authorities had publicly released complete details regarding the reported attack at the time of publication.
Analysts say the coming days could prove important in determining whether the ceasefire framework remains intact or whether additional diplomatic or military measures will be considered.
As investigations continue, global markets and international observers are closely watching developments in the Gulf region, where stability remains critical to international trade and energy security.
