Major Win for Election Integrity: House Passes Trump-Backed SAVE America Act in Key Funding Bill

Loading ...
A major election integrity proposal championed by President Donald Trump cleared another important hurdle Wednesday as House Republicans advanced legislation containing strong safeguards for federal elections.
House Approves SAVE America Act Attachment
The House voted 217-209 to pass a fiscal year 2027 appropriations bill funding the State Department and other national security priorities. Crucially, conservative lawmakers successfully attached the Safeguard American Voter Eligibility (SAVE) America Act to the package.
The SAVE America Act would require proof of U.S. citizenship for voter registration in federal elections and mandate identification when casting ballots — commonsense measures President Trump has repeatedly called essential for fair elections.
Trump’s Priority Moves Forward
President Trump has made strengthening election integrity one of his top priorities, arguing these protections ensure only eligible American citizens participate in our democracy. Attaching the SAVE Act to must-pass funding legislation keeps the pressure on Congress to deliver results.
One Democrat crossed party lines to support the bill, while most Democrats opposed it in a largely party-line vote.
Conservatives Applaud Momentum
Rep. Marlin Stutzman, R-Ind., highlighted the significance: “The pressure’s gonna be on the Senate.” House Republicans view this step as vital to forcing action on election security ahead of the 2026 midterms.
The bill now heads to the Senate, where its path remains challenging due to procedural rules and Democratic opposition. However, supporters are exploring ways to preserve key provisions, possibly through reconciliation adjustments or grant programs for states.
Broader Appropriations Progress
This marks the third appropriations measure approved by the House this year. Previous bills funded military construction, veterans’ affairs (including over $2 billion for VA improvements), and agriculture programs with strong protections for American farmland.
Focus Remains on Real Solutions
Sen. Roger Marshall, R-Kan., expressed support for voter ID and proof of citizenship while seeking the strongest possible language. House Speaker Mike Johnson voiced confidence: “We’ll get it done.”
Conservatives continue pushing for full implementation of these protections to restore confidence in our elections. With narrow majorities, every step forward represents meaningful progress toward securing the vote for American citizens.
Why Election Integrity Matters
President Trump and Republican leaders understand that secure borders and secure elections are foundational to a strong republic. The SAVE America Act represents a direct response to longstanding voter concerns and helps ensure future elections reflect the will of the people.
As attention shifts to the Senate, Americans will be watching to see if lawmakers prioritize integrity and deliver on this critical America First priority.
