Elderly Democrat Congresswoman Collapsed On House Floor While Protesting Trump’s BBB

Rep. Jan Schakowsky of Illinois reportedly stumbled on the House floor while speaking out against President Donald Trump’s “Big Beautiful Bill,” according to reports circulating online Wednesday. The longtime Democrat lawmaker was delivering remarks criticizing the legislation shortly after it passed in the House.

Independent journalist Ken Klippenstein shared the incident on X, citing reports that the 81-year-old congresswoman had fallen during proceedings. Despite the moment, Schakowsky appeared unharmed and continued speaking on the House floor afterward.

During her remarks, Schakowsky sharply criticized the Republican-backed legislation, which she referred to as the “Big Ugly Bill.” She argued that the measure could lead to cuts in healthcare programs and claimed the legislation would negatively impact hospitals, healthcare workers and low-income Americans.

The congresswoman also accused House Republicans of being pressured into supporting the bill ahead of President Trump’s legislative deadline. She said voters would remember the debate surrounding the measure and pledged to continue opposing policies she believes could affect healthcare access and social programs.

Schakowsky further claimed that her office had received calls from concerned constituents worried about healthcare coverage and rising costs. She argued that reducing Medicaid funding could place added strain on hospitals and healthcare providers across the country.

Republicans, meanwhile, have defended the legislation as a major policy victory focused on tax relief, economic growth and government reform. Supporters of the bill say it will strengthen the economy, reduce wasteful spending and deliver on key promises made during Trump’s campaign.
