The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of New Jersey announced Friday that four individuals who are not U.S. citizens have been charged in separate criminal complaints related to alleged unlawful voting in federal elections and false statements during the citizenship application process.
According to prosecutors, the cases were developed through the Election Integrity Task Force, which coordinates efforts among federal agencies to investigate potential election-related violations. Officials emphasized that the charges are allegations, and all defendants are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
Federal law requires that individuals be U.S. citizens in order to register to vote or participate in federal elections. Authorities allege that each of the individuals registered to vote in New Jersey while not holding U.S. citizenship and indicated on official forms that they were eligible to vote.
Prosecutors further allege that after participating in elections, the individuals later submitted applications for naturalization. On those forms, known as N-400 applications, applicants are required to answer questions under penalty of perjury. According to the complaints, the defendants stated that they had not registered to vote or participated in federal elections.
The four individuals named in the cases include David Neewilly, a Liberian national; Jacenth Beadle, a Jamaican national; Idan Choresh, an Israeli national; and Abhinandan Vig, an Indian national.
Court documents allege that Neewilly voted in federal elections in both 2020 and 2024. He faces charges that include unlawful voting by a noncitizen and making false statements in connection with a naturalization application.
Beadle is accused of voting in the 2020 election and faces a charge related to false statements during the citizenship process. Choresh is charged with multiple counts, including unlawful voting, issues related to naturalization, and alleged false statements tied to his application.
Vig is accused of voting in the 2020 presidential election and faces a charge related to unlawful procurement of citizenship or naturalization.
If convicted, the defendants could face a range of penalties depending on the specific charges. Prosecutors noted that unlawful voting by a noncitizen may carry a maximum penalty of up to one year in prison, while false statements and naturalization-related offenses can carry higher potential penalties.
Robert Frazer, who leads the U.S. Attorney’s Office in New Jersey, said the charges reflect the office’s focus on enforcing election laws and maintaining the integrity of the naturalization process. He stated that the allegations involve both participation in elections without eligibility and providing inaccurate information during official proceedings.
Todd Blanche also commented on the cases, emphasizing that the Department of Justice is committed to enforcing existing laws related to voting eligibility and citizenship applications.
