Federal agents executed a raid on the office of Virginia Senate President Pro Tempore L. Louise Lucas in Portsmouth, Virginia, as part of what officials are describing as a major corruption investigation.
Fox News reporter Bill Melugin first broke the news on X, writing: “BREAKING: Fox News is on scene in Portsmouth, VA where the FBI is raiding the office of Virginia Senate President Pro Tempore L. Louise Lucas, a Democrat and close ally of VA Governor Spanberger.”
According to law enforcement sources cited by Melugin, the FBI served multiple court-approved search warrants at Lucas’ office and at a neighboring cannabis dispensary.
“More to come with correspondent Alex Hogan, who reports that Lucas just showed up on scene as the FBI searches her office,” Melugin added in his post.
The FBI has not released detailed information about the scope of the investigation or whether any charges are expected.
Alex Hogan, Fox News correspondent on the scene, reported that Lucas arrived at her office while agents were still conducting searches.
Lucas has been a prominent figure in Virginia politics for years and is known as a close ally of Governor Abigail Spanberger.
The raid also targeted a cannabis dispensary located next door to Lucas’ office, although authorities have not explained the connection between the two locations.
In recent weeks, Lucas has been active on social media, including posts mocking Republicans following the narrow passage of Virginia’s redistricting referendum.
Neither the FBI nor Lucas’ office responded to requests for comment at the time of reporting.
The investigation is ongoing, and officials have indicated that further developments could emerge as the inquiry continues.
Political analysts are watching closely, given Lucas’ influence in state politics and her longstanding leadership role in the Virginia Senate.
This case marks one of the most high-profile federal investigations involving a state lawmaker in Virginia in recent years.
The search warrants were reportedly approved by a federal judge, underscoring the seriousness of the investigation.
As of now, it remains unclear what potential legal consequences Lucas or any other parties may face.
