Shooting Near Florida University Leaves 11 People Wounded

11-Year-Old Among 12 Injured in Shooting Near Florida A&M University Stadium

An 11-year-old child was among six juveniles injured in a shooting near Florida A&M University’s Bragg Memorial Stadium in Tallahassee, Florida, on Saturday night, October 24, authorities said. Twelve people were injured in total, including 11 who suffered gunshot wounds.

The shooting occurred near the university following its homecoming football game against the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff. Police said preliminary findings indicated that a physical altercation took place before gunfire erupted. Investigators have not announced any arrests.

Tallahassee Police Chief Lawrence Revell expressed grief over the incident during a news conference late Saturday.

“I stand before you devastated,” Revell said, emphasizing the heartbreak experienced by victims and their families.

Six Victims Were Minors

Police said six of the 12 injured people were juveniles, with the youngest victim just 11 years old. One of the injured was also reported to be a Florida A&M University student.

A grandmother was injured while fleeing the scene, bringing the total number of injured people to 12, although 11 sustained gunshot wounds.

As of Sunday morning, five victims had been released from the hospital, while six remained hospitalized. One of those still receiving treatment was in critical condition.

Authorities initially reported that three victims had sustained serious injuries. The remaining victims were described as stable, according to police updates.

The incident occurred in a crowded area near the stadium as people were leaving the homecoming festivities.

Shooting Followed Homecoming Football Game

The shooting took place hours after Florida A&M’s Rattlers lost 31–28 to the Arkansas–Pine Bluff Golden Lions in a homecoming football game at Bragg Memorial Stadium.

Police said early findings suggested that a physical confrontation preceded the gunfire. Investigators are working to establish what led to the altercation and identify those responsible.

Authorities have not established that the shooting was directly connected to the football game itself.

Police Chief Revell said investigators and forensic personnel were processing the scene and gathering information to reconstruct what happened.

“As our detectives work to determine exactly what happened and identify those responsible, we remain committed to getting answers for these families,” Revell said.

No arrests had been announced as of Sunday, October 25, and the investigation remained active.

Florida A&M Says Campus Remains Safe

Florida A&M University issued a statement expressing sympathy for those injured and everyone affected by the shooting.

The university said the incident occurred near campus and urged people to avoid the area while law enforcement carried out its investigation.

The statement also emphasized that campus safety remained a priority and that university officials were monitoring developments.

The shooting took place during the university’s homecoming weekend, when students, alumni and visitors gathered for celebrations surrounding the football game.
