Spencer Pratt filed a formal complaint Tuesday accusing Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass of violating electioneering laws near a ballot drop box during early voting ahead of the June primary election.
The complaint, submitted to the Los Angeles City Clerk’s Office, alleges Bass campaigned within a restricted distance of a voting location while encouraging supporters to vote early. Pratt’s campaign said social media footage documented the alleged activity.

Attorney Peter McNulty, representing Pratt’s campaign, stated that Bass appeared in videos holding campaign signs and speaking with voters near a ballot drop box. The complaint argues that California election law and Los Angeles election rules prohibit campaign activity within 100 feet of polling places and ballot drop locations.
Pratt also commented publicly on social media, arguing that election laws should apply equally to all candidates and public officials. He said the complaint was intended to address concerns about election integrity and enforcement of existing regulations.
The Bass campaign denied wrongdoing and stated that the footage in question was recorded at separate locations. Campaign spokesperson Alex Stack said one portion of the video was filmed in a nearby park while the ballot drop box footage was captured at a different location approximately 200 feet away.
The dispute comes as the Los Angeles mayoral race remains competitive. A recent Emerson College survey reportedly showed Bass leading with 30% support, followed by Pratt at 22% and City Councilmember Nithya Raman at 19%, with a significant share of voters still undecided heading into the June 2 election.
