During San Francisco’s Pride celebrations, Wiener was confronted by a group of pro-Palestinian demonstrators who accused him of not going far enough in criticizing Israel. Video circulating on social media shows protesters surrounding the Democratic candidate as they shouted criticism over his position on the war in Gaza.

One activist initially praised Wiener’s record on LGBTQ issues before launching into a heated condemnation of his stance on Israel.

“You’ve been terrible on Gaza,” the protester shouted. “You do not belong here anymore.”

Another protester claimed Wiener had “stopped being queer the moment he started supporting Israel,” highlighting the growing ideological divisions within progressive activist circles.

Growing Tensions on the Left

The confrontation underscores an increasingly common trend inside the Democratic Party, where candidates face pressure from activist groups demanding stronger positions on controversial international issues.

A video posted on X by activist Dimitry Yakoushkin claimed protesters had forced Wiener to leave the event. While Wiener largely declined to engage with the crowd, footage shows demonstrators following him and shouting as he walked away.

The incident came just one day after another video circulated online showing Wiener being confronted by a pro-Palestinian activist inside a San Francisco restaurant.

Wiener’s Position on Gaza Has Shifted

Earlier this year, Wiener publicly clarified his views after facing criticism from progressive activists.

Following a debate in which he declined to characterize Israel’s military campaign as genocide, Wiener later stated that he believes Israel “has committed genocide in Gaza,” marking a significant shift in his public position.

Despite adopting stronger criticism of Israel, some activists continue to argue his position does not go far enough, illustrating the intense ideological battles now shaping Democratic politics.

High-Stakes Race to Replace Nancy Pelosi

Wiener is seeking to represent California’s 11th Congressional District, the seat long held by former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi.

He is expected to face San Francisco Supervisor Connie Chan, who has received Pelosi’s endorsement, in what is shaping up to be one of the most closely watched Democratic contests in California.

For many political observers, the public confrontation reflects broader divisions within today’s Democratic coalition, where candidates are increasingly challenged not by Republicans, but by competing factions inside their own party.
