In a post on X, Melania Trump referenced a passage from her memoir, Melania, saying the Court’s ruling reflects a position she has previously expressed regarding women’s athletics and fairness in competitive sports.
“As many of you may know, I fully support the LGBTQIA+ community. But we must also ensure that our female athletes are protected and respected,” Trump wrote, directing readers to a section of her memoir discussing the issue.
She also referenced the Supreme Court’s decision, which held that states may maintain women’s and girls’ sports teams for biological females under Title IX and the Equal Protection Clause of the Fourteenth Amendment.
“America, we can support the rights of the LGBTQIA+ community and also protect opportunities for female athletes,” Trump wrote. “Respect everyone and keep girls’ sports fair. Both ideals are essential.”
The Supreme Court’s ruling establishes a nationwide legal precedent permitting states to adopt laws that limit participation in women’s and girls’ athletic competitions based on biological sex, subject to the Court’s interpretation of federal law and constitutional protections.
The decision is expected to influence policies affecting school athletic programs, state regulations, and future legal challenges involving Title IX. Supporters say the ruling helps preserve competitive fairness in women’s sports, while critics argue it could affect transgender students’ participation in school athletics.
The issue remains one of the most closely watched legal and political debates surrounding education, civil rights, and athletic competition in the United States.
