Federal authorities have provided an update in the search for Nancy Guthrie, the mother of “TODAY” co-anchor Savannah Guthrie, following comments from former President Donald Trump pledging federal assistance. Nancy Guthrie, 84, has been missing since February 1, when she did not arrive at church as expected, prompting growing concern from family and authorities.
The Pima County Sheriff’s Office has said Guthrie disappeared under what it described as “concerning circumstances.” Investigators are treating her home in the Catalina Foothills area of Tucson, Arizona, as an active crime scene and have stated that evidence does not suggest she left the residence voluntarily.
On February 5, Trump posted a message on Truth Social saying he had spoken with Savannah Guthrie and directed federal law enforcement agencies to assist local authorities. He said federal resources were being made available to help locate Nancy Guthrie and expressed support for her family as the investigation continues.
The FBI confirmed on February 6 that investigators are reviewing a newly received message related to the case. This development follows earlier reports that media outlets had received alleged ransom-related communications demanding cryptocurrency in exchange for Guthrie’s safe return. Officials said the new message is being evaluated for authenticity and relevance.
In a statement, the FBI and the Pima County Sheriff’s Department reiterated their request for public assistance and urged anyone with information to contact authorities. The FBI continues to offer a reward of up to $50,000 for information leading to Guthrie’s recovery or the arrest and conviction of anyone involved. Investigators and evidence recovery teams also returned to Guthrie’s home as part of routine follow-up efforts, officials said.
