House Republicans Advance Bill Targeting Welfare Fraud by Illegal Immigrants

House Republicans scored another legislative victory this week by passing the Deporting Fraudsters Act, a bill supporters say strengthens immigration enforcement and protects hardworking American taxpayers from welfare fraud.

The legislation passed the House by a 231-186 vote, with Republicans backing the measure and Democrats voting against it.

Sponsored by Rep. David Taylor (R-Ohio), the bill would amend federal immigration law to make public benefits fraud a specific deportable offense for noncitizens. Supporters argue the proposal sends a clear message that individuals who abuse taxpayer-funded programs should lose the privilege of remaining in the United States.

Republican lawmakers described the legislation as a commonsense reform aimed at restoring accountability and reinforcing the integrity of America’s immigration system.

“If you admit to or you’re convicted of fraudulently receiving public benefits, you are out of here on the next plane and can never return,” Rep. Tom McClintock (R-Calif.) said during House debate.

Republicans contend the bill closes loopholes that have allowed abuse of public assistance programs while ensuring taxpayer dollars are reserved for eligible Americans. They also reject claims that the legislation eliminates due process, arguing that existing legal procedures and criminal prosecutions remain available where appropriate.

Democrats opposed the measure, arguing that current immigration law already permits deportation for fraud-related offenses and that the legislation is largely unnecessary. Some lawmakers also expressed concerns about potential due process implications.

Despite Democratic objections, Republicans say voters continue to demand stronger border security and tougher enforcement against fraud involving public benefits.

The legislation now heads to the Senate, where it faces an uncertain future due to significant Democratic opposition and the chamber’s 60-vote threshold for most legislation.

Republicans Highlight Growing Financial Edge Ahead of Midterms

Separately, Republican National Committee Chairman Joe Gruters said Republicans are entering the upcoming election cycle with unprecedented financial momentum.

Speaking with Breitbart, Gruters argued that conservative organizations are positioned to compete financially with Democrats at a level not seen in modern political history.

According to Gruters, Republican-aligned groups could collectively control roughly $800 million in political resources, compared with an estimated $350 million on the Democratic side. He also claimed the Republican National Committee currently holds approximately $125 million in cash, while criticizing the Democratic National Committee’s financial position.

Gruters said that if upcoming court rulings expand campaign coordination rules, Republicans could gain an even greater strategic advantage heading into the midterm elections.

If those projections prove accurate, Republicans believe they could match—or even surpass—Democrats in campaign spending for the first time in decades, providing additional momentum as they seek to expand their congressional majorities.
