Law enforcement agencies are continuing to investigate the disappearance of Nancy Guthrie, 84, the mother of TODAY co-anchor Savannah Guthrie, after she was last seen at her residence in Arizona on Saturday evening.
According to officials, Guthrie returned home between approximately 9:30 and 9:45 p.m. Family members reported no signs of concern at that time. She was reported missing the following day after she did not attend a previously scheduled church service and could not be reached. Authorities were contacted shortly after noon on Sunday.
Officials stated that evidence gathered at the residence led investigators to conclude the case should not be handled as a routine missing-person report. Sheriff Chris Nanos confirmed that the investigation is ongoing but declined to provide further details, citing the need to protect its integrity. No suspects have been publicly identified, and no charges have been filed.
Authorities noted that Guthrie was mentally alert and independent, though she required daily medication. Law enforcement continues to review information and establish a timeline related to the period between Saturday night and Sunday morning.
