“Today” show co-anchor Savannah Guthrie and her two siblings issued a public appeal Wednesday for the safe return of their missing mother, Nancy Guthrie. The family released a video statement as law enforcement continues to investigate the 84-year-old’s disappearance.
In the video shared on social media, Savannah Guthrie addressed anyone who may be holding her mother, urging them to make contact and provide proof that Nancy Guthrie is alive. She said the family is aware of reports suggesting possible ransom demands and stated they are willing to communicate, but only after receiving confirmation of her mother’s well-being.
The video featured Savannah Guthrie alongside her siblings, who joined in the plea for their mother’s safe return. Savannah described her mother as a loving grandmother and devoted friend, emphasizing her kindness and close relationship with her family.
Multiple media outlets, including TMZ and Tucson-based television stations, reported earlier this week that they received ransom notes demanding large sums of money in bitcoin for Nancy Guthrie’s release. According to those reports, the notes referenced details connected to evidence found at Guthrie’s home, where authorities say she was last seen.
Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos has not confirmed whether the information in the notes matches the crime scene but acknowledged that investigators shared the messages with Savannah Guthrie. He has said authorities are not dismissing the notes and continue to assess their credibility as part of the ongoing investigation.
