President Donald Trump discussed the potential strength of a hypothetical 2028 Republican presidential ticket featuring Vice President JD Vance and Sen. Marco Rubio during a recent interview with NBC News.
Asked about the future of the Republican Party after his term, Trump praised both men but stopped short of endorsing a specific successor or confirming whether he plans to play an active role in the next primary cycle. He said he remains open to offering support in the future if he decides to become involved.
“JD is fantastic, and Marco is fantastic,” Trump told NBC News. When asked to compare their political styles, he said both are strong communicators who would perform well in long-form interviews and podcast settings.
“You know, you can see the style yourself. But they’re both very capable,” Trump said.
